How to care for your jewels
The common causes for jewellery tarnishing are salt water and harsh chemicals such as chlorine bleach or detergents. The chemicals erode the finish and polish of both gemstones and sterling silver, making their appearance dull.
Think about where and how you store your jewels. If it is in or near your bathroom, there is usually a melting pot of chemicals and moisture. Hairspray, perfume, cleaning chemicals, creams, shampoos, the list goes on, this is a toxic mix for your Mrs B Jewels. We suggest after you wear your jewellery, to clean it with a slightly damp (water) cloth. After you have ensured your jewellery is dry, store it in a plastic ziplock bag.
For silver jewellery, you can use a silver cleaner or silver cloth.
To care for gold plated sterling silver jewellery, it is important to follow all the above instructions. Plus, keep your gold plated jewellery dry at all times, and do not polish it very often as the gold plating will eventually wear off.
For our chains, we recommend you store them separately in there own ziplock bags with a tiny piece of the chain outside of the bag, so you zip the chain into the ziplock of the bag. This ensures the chain does not tangle. The fine chains in particular are almost impossible to untangle, so do take care.
